Adventure Club Family Night – Lesson 2: The Church is the Body of Christ

Memory Verse: Ephesians 5:23 – “For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.”
Bonus Verses:
1 Corinthians 12:12 – “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”
Colossians 1:24 – “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church.”
Weekend Family Activity: Scripture Reading and Discussion
1. Read Together: Gather as a family and read 1 Corinthians 12:12-26 aloud. Discuss any unfamiliar terms or concepts.
2. Discussion: Ask each family member what they think the main point of the lesson is: “The Church is the Body of Christ.” Share your thoughts and listen to theirs.
Object Lesson: “The Puzzle of Unity”
Materials: Jigsaw puzzle pieces (enough for each family member), a completed puzzle
1. Gather the family and the puzzle pieces.
2. Begin by showing the completed puzzle to the family.
3. Distribute the puzzle pieces among the family members.
4. Explain that just as a puzzle is made up of different pieces that come together to form a complete picture, the Church is made up of different believers forming the body of Christ.
5. Start assembling the puzzle together, asking each family member to find their matching piece.
6. As the puzzle comes together, discuss how each piece is unique but necessary for the whole picture, just like each believer in the Church.
7. Relate this to the lesson’s main point, highlighting how we are all part of the body of Christ.
Memory Verse Learning Plan:
Day 1: Read Ephesians 5:23 aloud. Discuss Christ as the head of the church and what the head of the body represents..
Day 2: Recite the verse together multiple times. Discuss the role of Christ as the Savior of the Church.
Day 3: Create hand motions for the verse.
Day 4: Practice saying the verse with hand motions. Discuss the unity described within the body.
Day 5: Test your memory! Try reciting the verse without looking.
Day 6: Family verse quiz game! Take turns saying different parts of the verse.
Day 7: Encourage each other to recite the verse from memory. Celebrate your progress!
Fun Verse Practice Activities:
– Create a drawing or artwork that represents the Church as the body of Christ.
– Act out a “body” with family members each representing a different body part.
– Form teams, write the verse on sticky notes, mix the notes up, then race to unscramble the verse.
– Make up a melody or rhythm to sing or chant the verse together.

Remember, the adventure of exploring faith and unity continues beyond Adventure Club! Encourage your family to carry these lessons into your daily interactions, practicing unity and understanding among each other. Happy exploring!
